Last night and today the barometer went high, the weather went cold and the fishing slowed.  We had 24-28 below this morning and it didn’t break zero all day.  But I plowed spots and pulled 8 houses today.  Making good ice where I have it uncovered, but under the snow was little change..  this is going to be a long process folks.

We are letting up to 3/4 ton vehicles on the roads to a certain points where we have them blocked off with cones.  Still no wheelhouses yet with pickups, mainly because there is no way they are going to get off the roads a safe distance to keep the flooding away from the roads.    Portables must park on the side of the road and walk off 75 ft to fish.  Those roads are all I have to operate on and I’m not going to have them wrecked for my customers.

I’m doing the best I can and we are slowly making headway, but it is on house at a time, a 75 by 150 ft plowed area for each and still trying to extend the roads out farther everyday to have them make ice.  We actually are doing really well compared to most, but that doesn’t mean everything is ok.  So have patience…

Today as fishermen were leaving for the weekend we heard some reports of big Walleyes caught and released.  Saturday evening as the cold front came thru the was a fair amount of activity.  Still some big Northerns being caught also.

Just before the weather change we had some freezing mist for about an hour so when the blustery winds came we had little of no drifting on the lake.   With this cold weather I’m hoping the snow settled enough before that the cold will go thru it and start making ice.  Still anywhere north of Pope’s,  Gull, and Spider  areas there are areas of 9-10 inch ice with snow and slush.  It is really limiting where we normally go yet and I’m not going to take chances like that.

Hopefully the next few days of cold will give us that little extra ice we need.

Fishing was pretty good today.  Mainly a lot of Perch, (small) for most.  But there were some more big Northerns caught.  Most Walleyes caught were too small, but a few in the slot were kept.

I spent the day getting roads ready for the wind and cold, plowed areas off to put more houses on.  Set up the road stakes on the roads.  We are as ready as will be.  The warmer weather settled the snow some and tonight before the winds picked up we had some freezing mist.  I’m hoping it will cap the snow somewhat and we will not have as much drifting out there.  That  would be a treat!   Going into the deep freeze for a few days..it should help improve the ice conditions.
