Today I pulled some of the smaller lighter private houses, banked up more rentals and got ready for the renters the next couple days.  And I made the road to the Tundra with the Land Cruiser. It about 1/2 as wide as I want, but ran out of daylight. You could tell the ice under the deeper snow was not very thick as when I got more of it uncovered you could watch it bend as I plowed.  So the cold weather coming will help that.

The bite was “fair” overnight despite a low of -24 degrees and a super high barometer.  And today I received 6 texts of Walleye pics  from 24″ to 27″ of C/R.  Most in 14-18 feet in close.  So you never know…

Until I see more ice depth I am sticking to the plan I explained last evening in the report.  Small crossovers, small cars, minivans, etc.  NO 1/2 ton rated or larger trucks.  Wheelhouses can pulled by your ATV or Side by Side.  I will continue pulling smaller private houses after tomorrows snow that is predicted. And be pulling more rentals as they are rented.  Rental customers will NEED to have a smaller vehicle, (listed above), if not and we will shuttle them and their equipment to and from the rental, BUT they will need an ATV/snowmobile out there in case of an emergency.

Thanks you everyone for your patience as this year again has been a “different” one.  What started out looking good early turned for the worse when the ice blew back in as it was freezing the second time.  It gave us alot of inconsistency in ice depth that we normally don’t see. (Especially in the 1 to 2 mile distances out from our access).  And I am still seeing it. That is why I am being cautious and making sure I have good consistent ice depth on the roads, and it is taking a little longer…

Today I checked the ice on all of our roads that I have plowed over the last week.  The average depth was about 13-14 inches.  Off the roads under the snow it varied anywhere from  9 to 11 inches. Some areas where rougher ice piled underneath it’s thicker, then you find a clear spot under the snow and there is way less. One spot I found had only 7 inches.   So we still have a ways to go yet.

Here is what my plan will be for now thru New Years weekend. I am going to start to pull what I consider “light private houses”  (You guys know what I consider heavy or light)  tomorrow based on the pull list for those that I know have small cars, or SUV’s or ATV’s that can get to their houses on their own.  There will be NO 1/2 ton or larger trucks allowed out. Wheelhouses will be allowed if pulled with an ATV. After the weekend and the cold weather we will recheck all the roads and ice and get going with the rest. You will be called as soon as it’s on the ice so you can plan according.

Rentals that come will need a small vehicle, SUV, mini van and will have to call ahead and let us know. Those renting that do not have something small we will shuttle you and your gear to and from, but you will need to bring a snowmobile or ATV to have with you out there in case of an emergency.

The bite was slow overnight, but the barometer was sky-high this am.  One rental had an 18″ Walleye and some small Perch.  This afternoon the bite picked up for those in the shallower water.  I think the next couple days with the weather change will get them going.  They are predicting 1-3 inches of snow. (Hope we don’t get any), a brief warm-up and back in the deep freeze for the weekend.

Merry Christmas!

Because of the holiday it was a quiet day with  only one rental. The cold weather is a blessing even though it might make the bite tough but we need the ice. i was out most of the day plowing spots for rentals and expanding roads to different spots. And because of the cold and holiday no portable fishermen showed.  Pretty much had my spot on the lake to myself… which I like.  🙂  Not many will know what it feels like to be out there all alone making roads and spots for fishermen to go to two to three miles out on the main lake..sometimes scary, but when you know its ok it’s nice to be there..

Starting tomorrow ATV’s with wheelhouses will be let out.  Park in the portable lot and pull from there. After I do more drilling and checking ice thickness on the roads I will let you know tomorrow evening about driving cars and trucks.  probably will be a day or two before that.. with the cold the ice is doing alot of cracking.
