Our first weekend open  and allowing anglers out went pretty good. Most everyone caught Walleyes, Some big ones and a lot of small ones in the 8-15 inch range. There was a lot of variation of lengths which is very good to see.  A couple large Northern Pike were reported C/R,

The ice conditions were a little spooky with the sunlight and temperature changes. But by only allowing ATV’s, and foot traffic, everyone stayed a little closer in the areas we had checked earlier.  Ice depths range from 9-1o” right know. Some places in rough ice a little more. But this year most of our ice is  clear, solid and smooth, Most say its strong ice.  I agree to a point, but when you put traffic on it because it does not “flex”, and I seen ice roads break up because of too much traffic too fast so it will be important this year to keep traffic speeds down.

The main lake ice is very unstable yet,too venture out any farther right now would be foolish.  And this weeks weather does not look too cold, so at this time I’m not sure if we will be starting to pull anything out for the weekend or not. We will go day by day and see how the ice does. Meanwhile if you can make it up and portable, it’s worth the trip.

Keep a Tight Line!    Eddy
