The snow we received Sunday evening into Monday am. was not a welcome sight at all.  That and along with the NW wind it blew the snow on the lake into small wave style drifts. So now the freezing process will slow down even more, and be more inconsistent.  What snow we got pretty much will negate the couple days of cold we are getting.  Check out the web cam during daylight hours and you will see,

Yesterday afternoon as the wind was letting up, I cleared the the landing and the area in front on shore of snow so that will at least freeze.  And today I am going to reopen what roads I had started on Sunday.  (What we call the Graveyard Road and Tullibee Road).  They only go out about 300 yards. but uncovered they will make ice.  We will be checking ice depth and conditions where we had staked previously and see what has changed since Sunday, and report that later this afternoon.

Two fisherman walked out yesterday during the wind and fished out in front.  They didn’t make it all the way to Gull Reef where they originally intended, due to the wind.  I didn’t hear from them when they left last evening so I’m presuming they didn’t have much action.

It has been many years since I’ve seen a start like this. To have this much snow and not enough consistent ice to get out there and plow is the real problem.  I always have been able to get a road when there was enough ice to plow.  Even if it was a little at a time and knowing how to use the weight of the snow to get the road to float I always got out there.   This year is different. The more snow we get in the next couple weeks, the less of a chance we have.

We might be portable fishing with snowmobiles and ATV’s with tracks for quite some time this year.  I know it’s not what most of us want to hear.  But for now that is what we will be doing.  I’ll keep working at it and hopefully we’ll make a season of it yet.  It is early compared to some years so there is time..  just keep the snow away from us…   🙂

Keep a Tight Line!!    Eddy
