Yesterday I spent time checking ice conditions farther out.  I found quite a few cracks from 4″-8″ that were open and most ice depth was averaging about 5″-7″ inches. But with the cracks and the warm weather we are having it was not worth it to go any farther.  We will have to wait until the cold weather arrives and locks it up a little more. It was more than obvious that the ice farther out is moving by what I seen, as most of the cracks were running NE to SW towards North Twin Island then heading west.

The next couple days will be sort of a sit and wait it out as far as weather is concerned.  We are supposed to have temps in the mid forties and above freezing at night. Tomorrow afternoon and evening we are supposed to get some rain and then some very strong NW winds overnight and into Thursday, some forecasts are saying up to 40 mph.  So it will not be a good time to be on the ice.

For that reason we will not be opening the access until Friday after things settle down and after we have checked out what has changed out there. We will more than likely be staying within the first mile out which will include Popes ,Gull, South Spider areas. Access will be foot traffic or ATV/Snowmobile with portables.  NO Side by Sides or wheelhouses. There will be plenty of parking available.

Keep a Tight Line!
