December 16th, 2021

Yesterday with the extreme warm weather we stayed off the ice and kept access closed. Which we will do today as well as the weather is doing a complete turn around. From fifty degrees, a thunderstorm with rain to NW Winds and 10 above with snow flurries.  At least we didn’t receive the 60 mph wind gusts.

Tomorrow we will open our access with limited areas to go.  We will have a map for those that come out showing the no-go line. With the extreme temperature change I expect new cracks and changing ice conditions.  it will be ATV/Walking/Ssnowmobiles.  NO side by sides.

Parking for ATV/Snowmobile portable fishermen will be in our usual area along the driveway. This fall I widened out driveway so vehicles can meet without waiting for the old “pullover” spots we used to have.  The only place it will be single lane is at the entrance off the county road, and the short stretch between the swamps before the barn. There is plenty of visibility on both ends of that so there should be no problem for vehicles to see each other and take their turn. Also there is a trail to drive on the east of driveway for ATV Snowmobiles/sleds so they don’t have to drag the sleds on the gravel.

We are going ahead with finishing the details on the new office/ bathrooms and showers and hope to have it up in running sometime after the first of the year.  meanwhile the Red House Office by the lake will still be home base.

6.15pm   A quick update for tomorrow!   As the day went on I found out more about the main lake ice. Most of the West and NW side of the lake has open water from the winds we’ve had. That means that it pushed somewhere and the the rest can move. I feel confident that  if fishermen stay within the area we marked off on the map they receive when paying access we shouldn’t have problems. But you need to be aware that is what we are doing.
