Yesterday about 25 fishermen showed up and went out. Due to the strong SE winds I drew a line from North Twin east to Spider and Gull and encouraged anglers to stay inside of it so if the ice moved out they would be on the shore side of it. (usually with Hennepin Island to the north 3 miles over the years it had held things in place in front of us). A few ventured out farther, but as the wind increased over lunch hour they all moved in closer. Fortunately nothing moved and the wind died. So I think it will be staying put from here on out.
The bite was slower for most with the SE wind. Alot of smaller Walleye and Perch were active but the bigger ones were not. One angler fishing in 13 feet reported seeing the Walleyes down the hole but they were not interested.
Ice is about 9 inches on the average. it will be Portables,(no wheel houses) ATV, Snowmobile, Side by Sides for awhile. Hoping the colder weather will help that situation as the week progresses, If the predicted snow stays north of us that will help alot, and maube we will let some very small wheelhouses out with wheelers Wednesday. We will be working on establishing what will be our roads in the future over the next few days to the reefs farther out. There is alot of rough ice to deal with is spots and some areas it will just not be fishable but it is what it is. So far it looks like we will be able to establish roads in all the same spots as we had last year (with some variation), See last years ice road map on our website. We’ll see how it goes this week.
Keep a Tight Line! Eddy
