December 21st, 2021

Monday was a quiet day on the ice as far as fishermen goes. There were only four anglers that showed up and they didn’t report their catch as they left. I provide a map of where we are going with a cell number and a simple text when off the lake would be nice.

Ice depths are ranging from 8-10 inches in most areas. We now have staked where our roads will be when we get some more ice to the Graveyard Reef, Popes Reef, Gull Reef, South Spider island to North Twin Island and out to the Tundra to the NW tip of it. Today when the snow lets up and if the wind doesn’t kick up too much we are going work our way out to the Banana Reef.

But the forecast is showing 10-20 mph NW winds with gusts to 30 mph.  Right now we have about 3 inches on the ground and supposed to continue snowing thru late morning, so if the wind really does kick up it will be a whiteout out there for awhile.  I was planning on pulling out some of our smaller rentals but changed my plan when I heard the forecast yesterday.  With the amount of snow out there now and the wind predicted they would just trap drifts and flood, so I’m going to wait it out.  It’s going to make getting thru the rough spots on the ice tougher as there will be drifted snow around them too.

I’m planning on pulling our smaller “basic” rental houses out after the winds die and we see what it looks like.  And we will see how the ice making goes before we really get going. 8-10 inches of ice is not enough to run on with anything bigger. So for now it will be ATV, Snowmobile, Side by Sides, portables only.  If you have a small wheelhouse that weighs  less than 2500lbs that you can pull  with your ATV, bring it.  Anything heavier stays on shore.  We have a large area for wheelhouse camping on land and parking for portable fishermen. We will be doing that until I see more ice.  It all depends on the weather.

Keep a Tight Line!        Eddy
