Starting today until Thursday are going to be plagued by wind. By the NOAA forecast.. Today are going to have NW winds 15-20 with gusts to 30. Tuesday SSE winds 5-10 in the morning, increasing to 15-20 in the afternoon with gusts to 30. Tuesday night sometime switching back to the NW 15-25 with gusts to 35. Wednesday NW 10-15 with gusts to 30. And Thursday NW 10-15 with gusts to 30. During the end of this and thru the weekend its looking like we are going to get our cold weather and get things rolling..
As you can see it will not be very fishable with portables out there even if the ice in our areas doesn’t move. To the NW into the main lake from what I seen in aerial photos yesterday I’m thinking with all this wind that big ice sheets that broke loose which appears to cover almost 1/3 of the lake is going to be moving around and where it meets up with other ice or shore it’s not going to be good. Even though that ice sheet is quite a distance from where we normally go we are going to take precautions and limit access. I’ve seen things like this before over the years, and on 6-8 inches of ice almost anything can happen with winds like that and it’s not worth taking the chance.
If the weather permits the next couple days we will be checking ice and staking where roads will be in the future, getting the wheelhouse parking lot ready for overnight camping (a 10 plus acre area.) for Christmas weekend and until the ice get thick enough to go on. This next weekend for sure we will be ATV, snowmobile, portable fishing. not sure if snowmobiles will be very good out there if there is no snow, I would recommend ATV’s.
Fishing report yesterday was mixed, the cloud cover seemed to help the bite and those that stayed after dusk did OK.
Keep a Tight Line! Be Safe! Eddy
