Yesterday I pulled out the first to rentals of the season with My Dad’s 46 Willys. ( A tradition here since Clark and Phyllis started Lybacks Ice Fishing 67 years ago.) I’m glad I’m still able to do it after 47 years of being on the ice myself. I’ve seen alot of things out there over the years.
Yesterday we had 7 groups out of portable fishermen and people in two rentals late afternoon for overnight. Reports were pretty good with 10 Walleye caught in the slot from what was reported, and numerous smaller ones and a few nice Perch. Most activity was on jig sticks, a set line didn’t fair as well.
I opened roads to the Graveyard, SE side of Ray’s Reef and NW side of Gull Reef. Pope’s Road is waiting for a small pressure ridge to heal halfway out on it. (Should be able to cross it today). And today I will be heading west towards North Twin island and back in the basin areas SW of Spider island. What I get done depends on the cracks or ridges we have.
We will remain portables only with ATV’s, Snowmobiles and Side by Sides. If you have a small wheelhouse that weighs 2500 lbs and can pull it with your ATV bring it. Other wise everything else stays on shore. We have plenty of room for Wheelhouse camping and parking in our field along the driveway. We will be running that way until I see more ice and get more roads established thru the rough ice areas.
We will be open Christmas Eve morning for those that want to go out, but you will be on your own as we are closing at noon for my family’s Christmas. We will be open Christmas Day but will not on the ice so you will be on your own also. Sunday they are predicting a fair amount of snow so we will wait it out see how much we get, and Monday get rolling out there again.
Merry Christmas!!
