Thursday was a nice day to be out on the ice. Temps were high 20’s and sun was out with little wind. Many anglers took advantage of it and went out with portables. The fishing reports were mixed with the better Walleye reports were in 16-22 feet. Lots of small Perch were active almost all over from shallow to the mud transitions. Best Walleye action was early am and from dusk prime times. Midday some had Walleye actions but mostly under the slot. I received 8 pictures of some nice ones after the day was over. So I would rate it a good day for most considering the weather.
I spent all day working on roads, getting thru rough ice with the Land Cruiser. Ice depths are averaging 9-11 inches. Some spots where it’s layered we found 16-20 and other spots next to it 8″ Most areas are accessible by ATV/Snowmobile, but I have not got a road to the Banana Reef although we have it staked. I hope to in the near future if snow on Sunday doesn’t screw things up.
Today for Christmas Eve I am going to stay off the ice. Our office will be open for portable fishermen till noon. and we will be open tomorrow Christmas Day also. We will remain portables, ATV’s, Side by Sides, and small wheelhouses under 3000lbs that you can pull with your ATV can go. Everything else stays on shore. We have plenty of room for parking trucks, trailers etc. Wheelhouse overnight camping if you would like. Until we get colder weather and more ice it will remain that way. It sounds like by the middle of next week our cold will be here so the ice making will start.
Merry Christmas!!
