I waited on the report yesterday to talk to most of the anglers out forthe weekend. By far the shallower reefs faired better than the deeper reefs and gravel areas we go to. That’s not saying nothing was caught deeper, some did OK, but it was not what it was earlier in the month way out. I moved half of my rentals into 12-16 feet and almost all had pretty good luck. Daytime there was a lot of Perch action for them, mostly smaller ones, but they could pick thru and get a few decent ones. and the early mornings and evenings there was Walleye action. Also numerous reports of Eelpout caught overnight in spots. The deeper rentals that I had from 26-32′ on bottom changes had less activity.
Same results came from the wheelhouse people as they checked out yesterday. Ones that fished deep didn’t fair as well as those that went shallow on the average. Despite the mixed reports I received alot of pictures of some 24″ to 27″ Walleye that were C/R along with may others. There was also reports of Tullibee being caught in the “Tullibee Hole” along with some nice sized Walleye mixed in for some. All in all it was an OK weekend for most, especially with the weather warming up.
This week the temps will be pretty nice, a few chances of snow, but not much. It’s going to be some nice weather to end the Walleye season with. (It’s over on Feb 28th.) Just a few FYI’s: All permanents will need to be ready to pull on Sunday Feb 28th when they leave. (ready to pull means ready on the inside, banking on the sides and ends of house removed.) If we remove banking there will be extra charges. All wheelhouses that are not going to store here for the summer will need to be removed from our storage lot by Feb 27th. March 1st we will be pulling in permanents and they need to be out of the way. The wheelhouse owners storing must make arrangements with the office by Feb 28th and register. This year we are establishing an area that will be easy for those to store and access them if they want to take them for a week or so this summer. Check with office about that.
Remember, the weekend wheelhouse list starts Tuesday at 7:00 am! Look at our wheelhouse page on the website for info.
