Today we had three rentals out and most of the activity was with Perch. Two are staying out overnight and i would expect the Walleyes will be biting with the barometer dropping before the snow coming.

Tomorrow we are forecasted to get 3-5″ of snow and if that happens it will be nice to see things white again.  It’s been pretty weird to watch fishermen drive down our quarter mile long driveway and see dust behind their vehicles as they come to the office to check in!  This year has been quite the change from last year when at this time we were buried in snow. For most of us at Mille Lacs it has given us a chance to catch up from all the expenses paid out with no return from last winter.  But it will be nice to see some snow.

Things are getting better out there on the lake and seeing all the smaller Walleyes from the last two years that have survived despite all the “studies and reports” has given us some hope for a better future at Mille Lacs.  Although there is a long way to go, it is a start. Seeing Perch showing up in shallow water spots that we used to expect them to be 10-15 years ago and have missed those last years is a good sign I think just for starters.  And if the DNR would start to pressure the Bands to stay off the spawning grounds in the spring and stand up for their own policies of protecting the reproduction process like they do for us anglers in other parts of the State of Minnesota, Mille Lacs Lake would have a chance!  it is time for Mille Lacs Lake and it’s fishery stop being kicked around politically!!!   “Just because” is not an excuse anymore…especially in these times ……

Keep a Tight Line!   Eddy
