Yesterday some of the anglers had activity, but not as much as I expected with the weather. Numerous reports of Perch and most Walleye were caught early morning and evening bites.
We received about 3 inches of snow since this started and it is wet and heavy. It doesn’t look like we will be getting any big winds as they had forecasted and I don’t think it would blow around if it did. With the warm temps most of the snow has settled and is wet. That will actually be good when our colder weather does come as it will freeze and allow the cold to get thru the ice and start freezing again besides just on the roads. We really need it now. Just yesterday a spot was found that had only 10 inches of ice under the snow so it is not as good as some believe. This time of year we should be in the 20″ inch range and the longer we don’t get cold weather the chances of a big storm shutting things down gets greater. I’ve been out on this ice for over 50 years and trust me I’ve seen it happen more than once. It’s starting to trend colder this next week so C’mon Cold!!
After we get things rolling this morning I will be pulling more houses on our list and you will be called as they get out. All will have to have some patience as going into a weekend with those that are out and driveways to be done we will be doing it as people show, not ahead like we usually do.
Our seasonal/regular paid wheelhouse customers that are signed up will be the only wheelhouses going out of here this weekend. 1/2 ton trucks or smaller will be needed to pull the wheelhouses with the ice conditions. With the temps starting to drop somewhat as the ice cools on the roads they are going to crack if too much is put on them. and after all the effort put in to make them I’m not going to have them busted up. If the cooler weather trend continues I plan on starting our weekend wheelhouse list on Tuesday like we did last winter towards the end of the season as we started limiting the number out of here to keep some sanity for all of the customers.
Portables, rentals, permanents. a single vehicle no larger than a 1/2 rated pickup on the ice.
