The Walleye bite from reports of fishermen were that Friday afternoon and overnight was pretty good for most. During the day yesterday it was slower. I received some nice C/R pictures of some nice sized ones. Still the best water was 14-22 feet or so. The deeper edges caught fish but the majority were smaller. Almost opposite of last weekend.
It finally looks in the forecast the warmer weather is slowly leaving us and we will be seeming some sub zero weather. The next ten day shows slowly dropping except for Wed/Thurs and by the weekend some below zero nights. After the last week it will be a welcome change. With the snow that slowly absorbed moisture as it warmed up coupled with the additional 2-3″ of wet stuff in the last 36 hours, the clear ice we have this year did not support the weight too well. Numerous areas out in the open where anglers were fishing or a crack went thru flooded. Some houses that were on thinner ice had flooding problems even with the snow moved well away. Now with the colder weather all that will change for the good.
Sunday/Monday we will start, pulling the rest of the houses on shore out. Start our weekend wheelhouse list on Tuesday and go from there. Currently individual vehicles weighing under 7000 lbs can go. All of our seasonal/regular wheelhouse customers can go out. (however we held them off some yesterday with all the flooding in spots until we knew more). But that will change with the cooler weather. Everything can change on the ice depending on the weather…
Keep a Tight Line! Eddy
3:35 pm update… Some of our wheelhouse customers started going out today. After hearing reports and seeing some trying to get off-road with them, I would highly recommend a pair of tire chains you can put on when getting on the ice. With the smooth ice this year all is take is to spin once and your done..
