First I apologize for the late post. I normally post before I hit the ice in the morning, but today I was in the office and didn’t get out when I normally do.
Fishing overnight last night was pretty good for those that went shallow. Some deeper areas had action, but not as good that were in and stayed quiet. Today with the baro dropping after lunch I was hearing reports and getting pictures. With the weather coming thru I’m thinking the next 24 hours will be the weekend.
With the growing number of wheelhouses coming to Mille Lacs it is more than apparent that what is happening out there is heading this lake the direction that Red Lake went over the last few years. Fishermen traveling out of a resorts maintained area, and going to another maintained area from a different resort. with no regard to anyone out there is not appreciated by anyone. Other fishermen and customers of other resorts that maintain roads in those areas might think differently. There are many out there that want to fish in peace and quiet. They have the right to that as well. To come rolling in in the middle of the night, and set-up within sometimes literally less than 50 feet is rude and unsportsmanlike, or drive by at 30 mph with a tandem and 1 ton show ignorance and disrespect to your fellow fishermen. I’m surprised that all these wheelhouse clubs don’t talk about this more and start spreading the word and getting some of these guys educated.
Everyone knows it’s public waters and anyone can do anything they want, but if you want it not to go the way of Red Lake there is a simple solution. Patronize the business that has roads to the areas you want to fish, stay there and don’t interfere with others. If you want to fish another area. Look at the resort that maintains roads in that area patronize them. It’s called respect… Ice Fishing is supposed to be fun.
Keep a Tight Line!! Eddy
