Most fishermen reported that yesterday was a pretty quiet day. Anglers were seeing Walleye, but they just would’t bite. Saturday night until morning the rentals did pretty good but when daylight came it slowed. For the weekend it appeared the best bite was Friday, Saturday was a little slower and Sunday slow. As always there were exceptions to the average and pictures of some nice C/R Walleye were sent to me. The weather change and barometer might have changed things somewhat. The last two days we have had bright sunny days compared to a week of clouds and haze.
Yesterday we drilled the roads that I have had opened up a week ago and checked the ice. In the snow 30 feet off the road the average ice depth was 11″ to 12″. In the center of the road it averaged 13″ to 14″. New roads are same as ice measured in the snow. Despite the warmer weather we made some ice on the roads, but out under the snow not much has happened. We need colder weather, and it look like temps are end up in the twenties for highs towards the weekend. I don’t expect to see much more ice made under the snow until things get alot colder.
I am planning on pulling more of the lighter houses starting tomorrow as I am not going to take out our larger trucks with this clear brittle ice on the roads until we have more ice depth. If we were getting sub-zero nights making ice I would, but we are not. Starting Wednesday I will let mini-SUV type vehicles out. No 1/2 rated trucks. Single axle Wheelhouses pulled with side by sides or wheelers. Rentals – try to bring a small car/Mini-SUV and you can drive to rental. If not bring a wheeler/snowmobile for emergency travel to shore, an we will shuttle your gear.
In the meantime I will be making more roads, Keep a Tight Line!
