Yesterday was a fairly quiet day with not too many anglers out there.  The bite was a little slower from most reports. The deeper transitions seemed to be the most active, but there was some BIG Northern Pike caught and release in the shallows. Sunday night a couple anglers that stayed over were catching Walleye from dusk to 1:00 am when they pulled the lines up on a couple shallow reefs.

A son and his Father C/R a 46-47″ Northern on Pope’s and got video of the whole thing.  If it would have been measured correctly and pictures of it measured it just might have made the State catch and release Northern Pike record. I will be putting pictures of it on our Lyback’s Ice Fishing Facebook page later this week along with pictures of a 43″ C/R Pike from NW Spider Island and another 39″ from Popes.  All were caught in about a 24 hour period.  Something has changed out there….

Sunday night the east wind blew in some freezing rain and capped the snow and during the day yesterday the snow settled some more so I highly doubt we will have any “blowing” snow today when the winds switch to the NW . They are predicted to gust up into the 40’s I’ve heard. After that is back to cold and the long range forecast looks more in the twenties for high and teens or single digits for lows for a couple weeks which will be good.  The ice will heal up and start freezing again. Hopefully our pressure ridge will heal up and quit moving for awhile also.

We are letting 1/2 tons with wheelhouses out, (single and tandem).  After the next couple days I will recheck the ice on the roads and more than likely let 3/4 tons go pulling wheelhouses for the weekend.  I will check Thursday and put it on the report.

Keep a Tight Line!     Eddy
