Yesterday I went out an did my last plowing on the ice for the season. I opened up about 2 miles of new roads, criss-crossing the Tullibee Hole and a loop around the reefs of Spider Island for Northern Pike. With the warmer weather it won’t be too many more days before we’ll end up with alot of water on the ice and we will probably shut it down depending on how the access holds up.
All vehicles going out from here on out will be required to have 4WD. Not because it’s needed, but it will make your trip out and back safer if needed. With slick ice and water on top there is very little traction.
Today so far there are a couple going out to scout and check around the area with Pan-Optics so we’ll now if the Tullibee are around or not.
In the 80’s the MNDNR Fisheries came out here with an “experimental” radar that looked sideways under the water. It could reach almost a quarter mile they claimed. I was with them when they went out to the Tullibee Hole and tried it. They would scan until they seen what they thought was a school of fish and then we would head that direction and try to find them . It worked, but was hard to judge distance and what they actually they were. But it was fun trying to figure it out. Now these days, Pan-Optics are the expansion of that theory.
Keep a Tight Line!
