Woke up to a brisk -21 below this morning….and it’s March. With the snow cover and ice thickness out there it is beginning to look like another late ice out year. Of course alot of things can happen by then but with the typically snowiest month still ahead of us will see.
Yesterday anglers that fished the slots I plowed in the “Tullibee Hole” discovered what I thought was going to happen and flooded themselves out. There was just too much weight with the snow and that area was almost 10″ behind compared to the rest in ice thickness all winter long. The main road is wide and high and dry, so it will be parking on the road unloading a snowmobile and portabling from here on out in those areas. No more spots for wheelhouses out there.
The Northern Pike areas in close are doing we fine with no flooding, and by the reports of catches yesterday I will be making more spots for anglers next weekend. The three were C/R that I received pictures of were 38″, 42″, and 43″ so that was a very good day out there. I will put up pictures of them on the Lybacks Ice Fishing Facebook page this week. With the weather looking pretty good for next weekend with the warmer temps and no snow it just might be the best weekend to give it a last try…
Keep a Tight Line! Eddy
