Yesterday I finished up the road approach to the ice and things are looking pretty good. I was able to build it with existing ice and slush piles along the shore and lots of water scooped up from the lake with the skid steer.
It’s been cold enough at night to freeze well so today I’m going to take a walk out there and see what there is for ice. I will update the report this evening after I find out how much there is. Being the majority of the ice in front of us froze when it was extremely windy I’m pretty sure there will be slush under it. The slush under it can actually help it make thicker ice faster. But it can also be a pain when it comes to fishing depending how much of it there is below the ice. But it is what it is and nothing is going to change it except cold weather.
As of now I’m pretty confident we will not be opening up the access for foot traffic or ATV’s this weekend. Some of the bays that have been froze over earlier will see some activity, but the main lake ice is far from that. The weather forecasted for early next week isn’t too favorable for ice making, but unless a snowstorm would screw things up I expect to open it sometime next week for the following weekend and obviously it will be portables only. Depending on ice depth by then we’ll see if there will be ATV’s or not. We will have plenty of space for parking and “wheelhouse camping” if those interested want to. Permanent owners are welcome to come up and stay over in their houses on shore too. It will be in the report when we do.
Who knows? A shot of cold weather and we might get going by Christmas yet!
Keep a Tight Line!
