Today the bite was a little better.  Definitely it is shallow for us.  More Perch and more Walleyes were active there than the deeper rocks.  Our Tullibee Hole is getting is showing more signs of activity also.  I’m thinking the next couple days with the cold front coming in it might slow a little, but with the weather changing for the weekend it will be back.

For those want to fish after the Walleye season closes on Feb 22nd. I’m going to spot some rentals in the Tullibee Hole  for Perch and Tullibees.  ( Bring your underwater camera if you want to catch them!), and I’m also going to go shallow with some for tip-ups and Northern fishing.  Fish for Perch in the house, and set tip-ups outside around it for Pike.  ( Could be alot of fun!)

The Lybacks/TWP Tournament is this Saturday and the prize list is looking pretty good this year.  There will be augers, Vexilar, and Lowrance electronics, Ice Force gear, ice Suits, rods and reel combos, tackle boxes, portable fish houses from Clam Corp, clothing, and much more.  It will be a good time for all attending.  Plus there will be some cash prizes for biggest fish caught in Perch, Walleye, Northern, Tullibee .  Everyone with a ticket must register and sign the waiver sheet before they can fish.   Tournament hours are 7:00 am to 4:00pm Saturday Feb 21st.  You can register starting Thursday at the office and our Office will be open at 5:00 am Saturday for same day fishermen. Weigh-in station open at 2:00pm.  Info where the weigh-in will be and rules will be given out at time of registration.  Should be a fun day!

Friday night and Saturday day had about the slowest bite I had seen all this season.  Friday evening before the wind started there was some action, but by midnight when the wind took off the bite stopped. Saturday thru the the day there was some activity, but very little.  A few fishermen caught some too big Walleyes on Pope’s, but I really didn’t hear of much else.  Sunday as they check out I’ll get a better idea.

When the wind let go Friday night it really blew for awhile.  There were at least 40 mph gusts as the temps kept dropping and today is slowly diminished thru the day.

Fishermen that are fishing the  Lybacks/TWP Tournament next Saturday….remember you must check-in at the office and register your ticket BEFORE the tournament start or you will not be eligible for any door prizes.  Registration is open this Friday am thru Saturday am.  Tournament rules will be given out at that time.  Start time for the tournament is 7:00a.m Sat. final fish weighed will be at 4:00 sharp. (Unless you are in line)  Weigh in opens at 2:00.

Today we got ready for the weekend. Finishing roads, moving houses, getting rentals ready for all that are coming. Tonight the wind is supposed to pick up from the NW and cold weather is coming in.  So far it’s not been too bad and I’m thinking it won’t be.  At least not compared to last winter…..

The bite was pretty slow today even though the barometer dropped some overnight.  yesterday it was extremely high.(30.6) I had on mine, and it dropped to about 30.  And I’m not sure what it will do when the next front comes thru overnight.  I’m not blaming the lack of the bite on the barometer, but over the years, (and there has been many at this place), it has been associated with when they bite and when they don’t.  Not intentionally, but over the last 60 years and starting with my Mom and Dad.  They always kept a record of when customers did well and when they didn’t.  And they always kept a daily record of the barometric pressure. And they for the most part coincided. To some it doesn’t matter, but I’m thinking it does…….oh well  🙂

Either way fishermen are coming back to Mille Lacs and there will always be somebody out there that does well.  And there will be some that don’t.  But when it comes to being out there trying……it still is an experience that many enjoy.  When your on the ice in a nice, warm, and comfortable house, it’s still an adventure!
