Yesterday the bite improved for some of the anglers.  Walleyes dominated the catch Thursday evening for those out there and during the day Perch were doing pretty good around Spider Island.

The ice started pushing a little as the warmer temps started getting to the ice, but I’m thinking we will not have any big problems with it.  We are still pulling houses out for those that are coming for the weekend and getting the rentals ready.

Driving will remain the same as the past couple days.  Single axle wheelhouses with 1/2 ton truck can go where we have all of our roads.  Tandem axle wheelhouses and bigger rigs will need to stay within the 1st mile of our shoreline where the ice is consistent.  (17″-19″  Cones are set on the roads where they should not go past.  The ice farther out is generally good but it varies so much. 13″-20″ with alot of 14″-16″ ice) I do not want of alot of heavy travel on the roads out there until we have more.  I am going to get a road to the “Bowl” today as it seems that the Perch are better in the shallower basins than in the deeper mud.

The Lyback/TWP Tournament will be Feb 27th.  Entry fee is $50.00/person.  100% payback in prizes.  Sign up and pay entry fee at our office. Currently are about 1/3 of the way on contestants.

Yesterday the bite was pretty good for the Perch and the late afternoon/eve typical evening Walleye bite was there as usual. Most Walleyes caught are in the 13″ to 17″ range, or 22″-26″ Perch depending on the day average 8″-11″ and most anglers pick thru them for the “keepers”.  We encourage that all under 10″ be released.

We are pulling more houses and getting things set for the weekend. We checked ice depths in all the ares we are going to so far and we found as little as 13.5″ under deeper snow drifts and as much as 20″ out in the open on clear ice.  The most consistent depths were 17″-18″ in the rougher ice in the first mile from our shoreline. Farther out on the smoother ice was where is was more inconsistent.

For the weekend we will allow tandem wheelhouses and trucks within the first mile on the “rougher ice” and single axle houses with smaller trucks beyond that. We will be marking the roads with cones so anglers know where the ice changes.  Currently we are out to the Graveyard, Banana, Tundra and Tullibee Hole, (approximately 2.5 to 3 miles from our shoreline). In closer we are on Popes, Gull and Spider Island areas. There are some areas where we will not be going to because of the very rough ice conditions, but we are pretty fortunate considering what happened when it froze.

The Lybacks/TWP Tournament will be Feb 27th.  $50.00 per person/ 100% payback.  Limited to 150 contestants.  Sign-up and pay entry fee at the office.

Yesterday fishing activity was pretty slow in most spots except for the evening bite.  Southwest of Spider Perch action was good most of the day, but you had to pick thru them. One angler was out in the “Tullibee Hole” and watched lots of Perch on the camera but they were not active, and there were small Tullibee mixed in also.

Single axle wheelhouses with 1/2 trucks will be allowed out of our access to areas we go to.  Tandem axle houses and will have to stay on the thicker ice closer to shore.  We will show you on the maps when you arrive.  I will not have all that weight travel on the established roads and weaken the ice for others. With the warmer weather coming it will not heal as fast, and for whatever reason most anglers with wheelhouses can’t drive slowly, even though we ask them.  If they would check the weight of their pulling vehicle and their wheelhouse and gear and add them together they would realize why they should.

We will keep pulling our customers houses that call ahead for the coming weekend.  Ones that don’t will stay on shore until they call.

The Lyback/TWP Tournament is on for Feb 27th, 150 contestants, $50.00/contestant, 100% payback in prizes.  You must pay when you sign up at the office.
