Monthly Archives: March 2016

March 3rd, 2016

This morning there are only three rentals out and ready for customers. Two in the Tullibee/ Perch area and one int the “Bowl”.

We will be keeping the road open thru the weekend.  The ice is 22-24 inches and everything is frozen.  There is little or no snow cover and the only areas that must be avoided are the tops of very shallow reefs or road banks. With the warmer temps coming, it will be a day by day so check the fishing report and you will know what we are doing.

Please read this attachment. I think everyone should read about what really happened up here and what can be done if the State would take initiative.  it is very well researched and discloses information that the Bands even violated their own conservation code.  And only it’s citizens will be able to get our State’s representatives to do something about it. print it out and give to others.  Currently our MNDNR says the netting had nothing to do about the decline, but in my opinion they didn’t have any idea how many fry did not hatch because of the harvest that were natures way to provide food for others.

Yesterday we continued to pull houses in.  Only 2 portable anglers went out an one house was rented.  The Perch activity was pretty slow from what reports we heard.

We are going to have two houses out in the Tullibee Hole for rent and one in the Bowl for Perch this weekend.   We will get more ready if needed, but will need to get call for them first.

With the sounds of a pretty tough summer ahead for the Walleye fisherman at Mille Lacs I think it is time that Walleye anglers start speaking up about it.  There has to to be a real change this time as the lake recovers.  I would encourage you to read this attachment and show your representative.  Our MNDNR claims that gill-netting had no effect on the decline of this lake based on their studies.  But they did not study on how many eggs were destroyed that never hatched that in natures way was supposed to be food for others.

Yesterday afternoon when the wind dropped we started pulling houses to shore and today will spend all day at it. There were only a couple fisherman out so not too much to report about.

We will have houses available for Perch/ Tullibee and Northern Pike thru March 7th.  We got a couple rented already so I think anglers are going to have some coming for the weekend.  The roads and ice are doing well and should hold up well thru the weekend.  Next weeks forecast-ed weather could start the beginning of the end with the warmer temps, but we will wait it out and see.   We will keep roads out as long as weather permits.
