Today I plowed more roads so the cold can get to the ice. Tomorrow I’m going to continue. Tuesday morning we are going to check ice depths and decide what to do as far as letting vehicles go out.  More than likely it will be small cars and small trucks, No 1/2 tons, no wheelhouses unless pulled by an ATV,  but NONE of that is for sure until we check the ice Tuesday.  I will update the report after 1:00 pm Tuesday and then you will now what we’re doing.

I have roads as far as the NW end of the Graveyard, the Banana Reef and Tullibee Hole, And will be working my way west towards the Tundra tomorrow.  So when we do get going we will have pretty good access for fishermen.

Only a few fishermen went out today.  Heard reports of a 24″ Walleye C/R.  And a 40″ plus Northern Pike that was C/R also because the angler did not have two under 30″.    So it goes…

Merry Christmas!!  and Keep a Tight Line!!

Today I spent most of it in the Land Cruiser opening up more roads and uncovering ice so when the cold comes tomorrow night we will take advantage of it as much as we can. Going to do the same thing tomorrow.  Ice depths are about 9″ inches to as much a 12″, but the majority of it is between 9″ and 10″.  Starting tomorrow ATV’s with wheelhouses, will be allowed out. Most of the ice is good enough for that, although you will have to watch out for cracks.

The bite overnight was ok. Walleyes were caught in some of the rentals. Today activity was a little better than the last couple and some fishermen had good luck in about 25 ft of water.

We will be closing for Christmas Eve at noon and reopening Christmas Day at 9:00 am.   Merry Christmas Everyone!!

Today the bite was a little better than the last couple of days.  Our overnight rental caught and released Walleye, and some anglers were on the shallower side of the Banana and caught  a 17″ Walleye and were marking numerous thru the day. Quite a few reports of more activity at least.  At dusk and angler sent me photo of what looked like a keeper off of Gull Reef.  Tonight I have three rentals out over night in 14-16 feet and rocks  and we’ll see how they do.

I finished the main road to Popes today and I have to say that stretch was the roughest I’ve made a road in for a really long time. It turned out ok and will improve with more plowing.  I still have to make the turn to the north and go thru a stretch of it again but will work on that over Christmas when angler activity is down. and I can make some noise..    🙂  I plowed the roads to the Graveyard and Banana and removed the new snow so what cold we get will speed up the ice making a little. And will be working on others over the weekend for the same reasons.  Most ice on the roads right now is from 8.5″ to almost 10″ so we still have a long ways to go, and hopefully next weeks cold will start adding to the thickness.

My Gran-daughter  Isabel and I went out and got the family Christmas tree out of our Spruce swamp late this afternoon.  I was our 7th year of cutting the tree since she first went with me at three years old.  It is a tradition I want to continue until I physically can’t someday, which I’m hoping will be many years from now.   Merry Christmas Everyone!!
