The melt is on up here….. finally. the last couple days have be approaching 70 degrees and things are going fast.
We went out yesterday and picked up the road stakes. Most were standing and melted around the base so it was easy to grab them and go, the problem was that there was a lot of water out there and what snow was still there was slushy so it was difficult to run the snowmobiles thru some spots. We are going to give it a day or two and let it melt so more and let the water start going down some before we go out and finish looking our areas over.
I was pleased that out of all the places we had permanents there were only 6 blocks found that were missed. We’ve been using chain saws to remove blocks if they are froze in right away when we pull them and that has made a big difference over the years. They work really slick, you just cut down around all for sides of the stack of blocks, take a chisel and “pop” one side and pull the whole chunk of ice comes out with the blocks froze in it and your done . We used to wait till the end and go pick them up when it was good going, but some years the good going was on some pretty sketchy, honeycombed ice. I’m getting to old to be a “daredevil” anymore like I used to be… 😉
I moved the web cam position to the west so Spider island is in it’s view so you can watch the sunsets this summer.
