Yesterday, fishermen had decent action. Some slots were caught, but the majority were smaller. A couple of fishermen also ended up with some decent Perch.

I spent the day smoothing out the rougher ice spots on the roads and will continue today. We didn’t make much, if any, ice out there over the weekend and probably won’t until the weather turns colder. Fortunately, that is going to happen this week. We will check ice depths as it turns colder, see what we end up with towards the weekend, and decide what we will do then. Ice depths currently are between 9″-12″.  The thinner ice is out the farthest, and the 12″ ice is within 200 yards from shore. Most ice is 10″-11″ now.

We will continue with ATV and portable fishing for now. Small wheelhouses (14′ and under pulled by ATV or SxS) can also be accessed.  But there will be no cars or trucks at this point. We do have our smaller “basic” houses out for rent. We can shuttle gear in and out if required, but customers need an ATV to have it out there in case of an emergency to get to shore.

Saturday was a good day for most fishermen who came to fish out of our place. It was our first Saturday being open, and there was a big turnout of customers. The bite was pretty good for most out there.  Numerous slot Walleyes were reported, some over the slot I received pictures of, along with a 39″ Northern. Still, most reported a lot of small Walleye and Perch C/R.  Just before dark, the keeper Perch started biting in a couple of spots, and some Anglers had some decent Perch catches.  I will be posting them on our Facebook Ice Fishing page later today.

Ice thickness varies from as little as 9″ to as much as 13″ close to shore. Most of it averages 10″-12″.  In the next few days, I will work on improving rough ice spots in the roads and getting things ready for when we see 14″ of consistent ice out there when we can start pulling some of the houses. Currently, we have two basic four-hole houses out for rent. Those renting will need an ATV to access them or get to shore in an emergency. We can shuttle gear to and from if required.

So far, so good!

On Friday, the fishermen who went out seemed to have pretty good action with the Walleye. The greater majority of those caught and released were 7″-10″. I heard of a few slots caught, but not many. Fishermen were also reporting 15-30 Walleye per angler and many small Perch in the mix.

We staked out what will be roads out to the Banana Reef and NW of North Twin Island to the Tundra. I pulled out two basic rentals with the Jeep yesterday, one on the NW side of Pope’s and the other near Spider-Island. Both are on 11″ of ice, and anyone who wants to rent them will need an ATV to get to them. Most of the ice on the main lake is 9″-11″ thick, with the thicker ice within the first 200 yards from shore.

It will be a while before we pull permanents and larger rentals and allow wheelhouse traffic. Things will start happening once we start seeing a consistent 14″ inches of ice.  Keep watching my report.

Keep a Tight Line!
