Overnight the bite continued for those that stayed out. It did slow somewhat compared to the last few nights but was still good.  One of the highlights yesterday was a Father-Son that went out in search of Northern Pike. The Son’s first tip up catch was a 40″ 20lb plus Northern Pike. I’m pretty sure he is hooked now!   🙂   We have some pretty good areas for that type of fishing and with this warmer weather it’s alot of fun. Today so far the few that are out are having some pretty good Perch activity.

I pulled in four of our eight rentals we had out this morning while the ground was frozen in our storage lot, in preparation for the next few days of warm temps and rain.  By the weekend we are supposed possibly see some snow and more seasonable temps next week. We will still be taking reservations for rentals. As it cools off, and if it turns out looking good, I’ll pull some back out as needed.  All reservations will be tentative and have to be confirmed 48 hours before arrival so everyone knows what we are doing.   I’m hoping we can finish the last couple weeks of the season.  I’m sure we will one way or another, but it would be nice to end it on a good note.

This season will be one to remember, (or forget  😉  ). It was so frustrating when we ice in our areas that would have been good to go for us if the weather would have stayed cold. But when the warm temps arrived it wasn’t good enough to put alot of traffic on it like we normally would have in an average year.  Along with the lack of snow the ups and downs of temps the ice was cracking at night and not healing well during the day.  If we get some snow cover and more seasonable-cooler temps we can make the last couple weekends, and continue into March for Northern Pike and Perch or a Tullibee or two!   😉

The night bite continued Saturday evening for those out there.  Rentals reported the best activity from 10:00pm to 3:00am.  Those out during the daylight hours have some luck but it was inconsistent. Many pictures were sent in with slot Walleye  up to 26″ overnight and best depth was 14′-18′.  Daytime action was more in the 20′ range. Perch action was best in the early daylight hours.

I blocked off our road to the Gravel as there was a couple moving cracks coming from the direction of Big Point headed towards Otto’s Point area that crossed or road about a mile NW of the Banana Reef.  Tomorrow we are going to go out and pull the stakes and cones from there as it isn’t worth going out there for the daytime bite from what reports I heard over the weekend.

Starting Tuesday, the temps both day and night will be above freezing and the possibility of significant rain is in the forecast for Wednesday evening thru Friday.  Not sure how much yet, but the percentages are in the 60-80% range.  We’ll be watching as it gets closer and decide what we will be doing later this week.  After the weekend temps are forecasted to drop some so we will see what happens..

We will continue with ATV’s for rentals, portables and small wheelhouses pulled by them for now, as the ice and access is holding up well doing things this way.

Keep a Tight Line!

The bite overnight was very good for those out there in our rentals and those “ice camping” in hubs.  Some rentals had as many as 20 C/R Walleye a house with some slots in the mix.  The shallower reefs had the best fishing in depths ranging from 14-18′ next to shallower water on the drop-offs with bottom changes. Daytime activity is slower with Perch mixed in.  Today many portable/ATV fishermen are venturing out to deeper so we will see how it goes.

We have a 6″ wide crack that is open about 2.5 miles out towards the Gravel Bars so we are not recommending travel past it as it is open and not freezing very well with these temps. There are many other Reefs with deep water around them inside of it in our area so there is really no need to go past it. Today with the overcast temps are remaining a little more consistent helping the situation some. We will be continuing with ATV access for portables, ATV and SxS’s pulling small wheelhouses, and shuttling customer’s and their gear to our rentals. Rentals will be required to have an ATV with them in case someone has to get to shore in an emergency.

We will continue with this thru the next week until we see a change. It’s beginning to look in the forecasts that in the next 7-10 days we might see some more seasonable temps to finish out the season.

Keep a Tight Line!
