Today Fishermen did pretty good with the Perch and Walleyes in shallower spots.  Some portable traffic went to the deeper reefs with mixed activity.

I established more roads to Ray’s Reef and The Graveyard to get things ready for pulling. Ice depths in the black ice ranged from 11″-13″ and the rougher ice thicker.  So we are getting closer.

For Saturday and Sunday we are limiting vehicle traffic to vehicles under 4000lbs on our staked roads.  Single axle wheelhouses if they are pulled by an SxS or ATV with dolly.  I will be widening  the Tullibee Road to the East Bar and adding more roads around the Banana Reef and over to the Tundra for the coming week when have the ice to go out there.  Rentals will need a vehicle under 4000lbs, or a wheeler and we will shuttle gear for you.

The plan is to start pulling more next week after I get the areas ready.  Driving heavy vehicles might be limited depending on ice thickness.

Today the bite was slower from what reports I heard, Some were still out when I closed so I don’t know for sure, but pictures sent in to me were not like yesterday.

I opened roads to the Banana, Tundra and to both sides of East Bar, (to some it’s called the DogBone) with the Land Cruiser.  For us it is 3 miles out and we have gone there for over 40 years.  Some of the ice around the Banana  is pretty rough but nothing that my disc won’t take care of.  It’s just going to take some extra work to establish what I like to call a road.   But for now we are there. Ice depths out there range from 10″- 12″ with some areas more where it is rough.

We have our smaller “basic” rentals out and all are rented this weekend except for a couple.  Renters will need a vehicle under 4000 lbs weight if they want to drive out.  Otherwise they will be shuttled and will need an ATV to have out there in case someone needs to get to shore while they are there.  Single axle wheelhouses around 16ft. can be pulled out with an ATV, or SxS .  Portable fishermen can bring a trailer pulled by an ATV or SxS if they are going out, especially to the Banana Reef, Tundra and East Bar. Our main goal is to keep things going out around or under 4000lbs. Tomorrow I will start pulling from the list of permanents. lightest first if you called and are on it.  Saturday and Sunday I will be establishing more roads thru the rough ice and disking them to smooth them out.   Monday I will resume pulling more.

That’s the plan for the weekend.

Today  we checked ice depths and we gained a little less than an inch in most area’s. So now we have 10.5″-11″  in the thinner areas, and 12″ on average and more in the rougher spots. (The thinner areas are what we have to cross to get out to the thicker ice.) So we are getting there.  I am pulling out my smaller basic rentals for the weekend.  Private houses can start calling to get on the pull list for when we do pull them out. Regardless of when you call to get on the list it will go by size and weight of the house. As the ice depth increases the bigger ones will go.  I’m hoping we will be around the 14″ range by Sunday before next weeks warmer weather. That is when we go. Permanents are welcome to come up stay in their houses this weekend and portable.

The fishermen that have been out the last couple days have done pretty good.  One rental C/R 7 Walleye from 16″-24″  overnight, another angler did well today west of Spider in about 14 feet with both Walleye and Perch.  So going deep isn’t really necessary so far..

For this weekend it will remain ATV’s, SxS’s snowmobiles with portables.  Wheelhouses under 16ft pulled with a SxS. (We will not shuttle wheelhouses). Rentals will need a vehicle under 4000 lbs. or a ATV in to get to shore if needed. We will shuttle gear for rentals if needed.

Keep a Tight Line!
