According to reports, the bite has been slow for most of the last two days. There are still lots of small Perch and Walleye. Keeper Perch is starting to show up in the catches in spots, but the larger Walleye are tough to get. It’s close to the time of year when some of the shallow water spots will start to pick up in the early morning and evening hours. After this weekend I will be moving some rentals shallow depending on the catch this weekend.

After last weekend’s cold wind and drifting snow, time was spent clearing drifts from permanents and rentals and moving some of them to new areas. Wheelhouse access to the gravel bars is plowed and good to go. You only have to travel 3 miles to get to them from our access, and the road is wide and in excellent condition with no rough areas to travel through.

Fishermen coming up to Mille Lacs should call and check bait availability from the places they normally get it from up here before just driving up and expecting it.  The bait suppliers in this area are having difficulty keeping up with demand, and because of the shortages, prices are high. (the consequence of supply and demand)… It might be easier to get it on the way up.

Yesterday and overnight, there were mixed reports from those out there. Some did not have too much action and some C/R over the slot Walleye. With the weather changes coming, the bite will improve over time.  We have been moving some rentals into new areas and will see what happens.

We still have two 4-person deluxe houses and two 2-person deluxe houses available this coming weekend. Permanents should call 24 hours in advance for services or arrivals.

The ice is in good shape, with well over 20″ in most places.  There are no cracks or pressure ridges in the areas we go to. Wheelhouses coming for the weekend should call and get on our list. In most cases, there will be no need to plow spots. There are drifts out there, and they are hard, but there are also a lot of open areas. It would be good to have chains, just in case. We will focus on the main roads and driveways this coming weekend.

Keep a Tight Line!

This morning’s temperature was -22 degrees. But a slow warmup will start today, and temperatures will be above zero by evening.  It looks like our cold weather is over for awhile.  I expect fishing to pick up some as the barometer changes over the next few days.

We started our weekend wheelhouse list today. If you are planning on coming out this weekend, call ahead to get on it. You will save $5.00/day on wheelhouse access fees for Fri-Sun.  Otherwise, it is $20.00 per calendar day at any other time or if you are not on the list.

We will move some rentals to new spots over the next day to prepare for the weekend. At this time, we still have two 4-person deluxe rentals and two 2-person deluxe rentals available for this weekend. Call our office for details.  Permanent customers and seasonal wheelhouse customers, remember to call 24 hours ahead for any services or arrival times.

We are looking forward to a great weekend out there!
