Overnight, the wind kept blowing and still does. The ice made it out about another half mile. Today, we are getting some light snow flurries, but they are not enough to harm anything. I can tell from watching it progress that the water isn’t that cold yet with it’s as slow as it’s moving out in the deeper water.  But it will keep going, I’m sure.  We can only hope that the weather will continue to stay cold. So far, it’s shaping up to be a good start to this season.

Tomorrow, I will be working on the road approach, breaking up the rough ice on shore and packing it down for when the time comes.  Here are a couple of pics from today.  Click image to enlarge.

Overnight, the ice went out a little farther, and the waves in the open water beyond are definitely “slowing” up as it’s getting closer to freezing. The wind is supposed to keep blowing overnight, so it will keep progressing slowly.

The weather forecast is favorable over the next week, with single-digit lows and not much for snow, so we’ll wait and see what happens. I won’t predict if we will have “walkable ice” for next weekend.  I usually like to see 6″ of ice and know that the entire lake is ice-covered before we start venturing out too far. I’m sure the protected bays will have anglers on them this week, but probably not as far as the open lake.

I suggest permanents get up here and check over their house if they still need to, as it will be long before they get out there, and there is nothing more frustrating than having something not work when you set up.

When we start walking, ATV, and portable fishing, you can stay in your house on shore overnight if you choose, Wheelhouses are welcome, and we have plenty of on-shore parking for them if they want to stay over.  I’ll let you know when we open the office!

I hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving!   We are having ours today at the Red House on the lake. Besides Thanksgiving it’s my Dad’s Birthday.  It’s been forty years since he passed but always will be remembered.

The lake its starting to freeze and with the weather forecasted it should continue to make progress.  There doesn’t seem to be much for below 0 temps, but single digits at night will help alot.  I attached a couple pictures below to see where it is now.  And starting Monday I will post some every day so you can see what’s going to happen.

Right now I don’t think we will be open for the weekend of December 7th for walking or ATV, but we’ll see.  With our location on the open lake I like to know that the entire lake is iced up and we have a good 6″ of ice before we start that. I’ve seen too many times that pushing it earlier than that can be a problem.

We are looking forward to a better year this year with the limit changes, Lets hope mother nature thinks that way too!
