Category: Fishing & Ice Report

The ice went sometime overnight and the lake is “unofficially’ open.  All that is left is the ice piles on shore and the islands.

This weekend we’ll be putting in the docks and boat ramp for the Red House and will be getting ready for the first renters on Opening Weekend.  Hoping for a good summer here.  Take care and see you next winter!        Eddy

Overnight, we received 3-5″ of snow. Today, the NW wind is cooling temps, and it’s starting to drift on the lake. It looks a lot more like January instead of March, and by the sounds of it, more snow is on the way over the weekend. The ice will be out there for some time yet.

The new open-water regs are out, and the Walleye limit remains at 3 per person.  17″-20″ slot with one that can be over 20.”  Smallmouth Bass season is year-round, starting February 23rd as C/R, with a harvest season over the summer.  So we will see how that does with the number of anglers coming to the lake this summer.

Our summer rental is filling up fast, so if you are interested in a week, call Cindy ASAP.

Overnight the pressure ridge pushed again on our Tullibee Road. This morning we removed the ramps and have decided to close for the season.  With the warmer temps and rain forecasted the next few days it’s not worth the effort to maintain them.  If the weather makes an “abrupt” change in a week or two I might reopen if the Perch move in, but you’ll have to watch the report. Even if we do it will probably be ATV only.

I want to thank all of our customers for their business this season, it’s my hope we did a good job in providing services to make your stay enjoyable.  And a special thanks to my employees that put their all in helping that happen. I couldn’t have done it without them.

There are changes coming on the Walleye regulations for the upcoming season and also a year-round Bass season allowing catch and release during the winter months. Some interesting times ahead for sure..

Starting Monday, we will be closed during the week and reopen on Friday—March 6th through Sunday, March 8th. Office hours will be 7:00 am to 1:00pm. Customers who want to come up during that time will need to call 320-676-8740 and let us know.

The regulation changes to 5 Tullibee and 5 Perch have definitely reduced the angler effort. In turn, it has affected the amount of activity we would normally see, especially in a year like this with good ice conditions. When the cost of being open exceeds the revenue, it’s time to cut back, especially this late in the season.

There will still be some good Northern Pike fishing coming up along with the Perch moving back in to pre-spawn areas. If the temperatures stay on the cool side, the ice and approach will be here for some time yet. Remember Friday-Sunday. 7:00am- 1:00pm. Call ahead to 320-676-8740 so we know.
