For the last couple of days, the best fishing has been in shallow water at night for the Walleye. But for most, fishing in 8-12 feet of water with generators, lights, etc., usually doesn’t work out.  Low light and quiet will help.  Perch are in the basins in the mud, but they are constantly moving, looking for bug hatches, so you have to be on the move also.  The daytime Perch activity in the shallower gravel basins is more consistent, but there are more small Perch.  However, larger ones are showing up more daily and will continue throughout the season.

We are expecting a fair amount of snow tonight, some very strong winds on Thursday, and more snow Friday night into Saturday. Those who have wheelhouses should bring tire chains.  It is still pretty easy to get off roads and move, but after this weekend’s weather that could change.

We still have a a few basic houses available in 12 or 24 hours shifts for the weekend and one 4 person Weeeknd Deluxe house available. (VIP5) , so give us a call if your interested.

Over the weekend, there were mixed reports as fishermen spread out looking for Perch in the mud basins in front of us with mixed results. Some were finding them, and some were not. One fisherman reported seeing four Northern Pike, two muskellunge, Walleye, and Perch on their camera over the day in 36 feet of water.  But not much was biting.  A couple of others in 10′-11′ feet of water watched 50, some Walleye, many nice sized, swim by their camera in close to shore without catching any.  Many fishermen didn’t have any luck at all.  With the strong SE winds Saturday, many just stayed put.

It’s looking increasingly likely that we will be in a weather pattern with more snow more often. If you’re planning on bringing a wheelhouse, it would be wise to have chains from here on out. There is enough snow and drifts out there to cause problems if you are “off-roading.”  Depending on how much snow we get in the future, we might start offering to plow spots. We will wait and see how much snow we get. Our weekend wheelhouse list starts Tuesday.

Yesterday, the bite during the day was steady, with small perch and walleye for most of the time. Some fishermen worked in some of the basins in the mud for perch, but not many found the “Jumbos.” There were a couple here and there, but no real numbers. Overnight, the Walleye action was best in shallow water, and at dusk, some spots in the Gravel had some action.

Today, at 11:00 a.m., the snow started, and it is still coming down at 2:00 p.m. It looks like it will mostly be over in the dark with just the winds. The strong SE wind is reducing visibility right now, and I’m sure there will be some drifting, and we will be out plowing out our customers. But the temps are warm, and tomorrow will be in the mid-30s. Monday through Wednesday, more snow is predicted, so we will finally have some snow cover so customers will stick to the established roads. With lots of ice and not much snow this season, wheelhouse fishermen have been going everywhere. Many without regard to resorts that maintain roads to the areas they are fishing. Even to the point where other resorts are plowing into other’s roads. Especially in the Gravel Bars. The last couple of weeks of the season might be a little different with some snow out there.
