Overnight the winter storm warning went to a weather advisory as the warmer air shifted north for us. By this morning we received about four-six inches of wet snow, We are going to stay off the lake and wait for the rest of the storm to show up as it passes thru overnight. Hoping we will not get too much more.
I’m pretty sure we will not be allowing vehicle traffic this coming weekend even though colder weather is coming. ATV’s/Side by Sides/Snowmobiles /Portables will be our plan for now. If you have a Side by Side with Tracks or chains that is capable of pulling a small single axle wheelhouse, ( 8’x12′ or smaller), we will let them go to areas where we know what there is for ice depths. If you want you can bring your wheelhouse toy hauler, camp in the field, and portable for the cost of an access fee. Alot will depend on how much more snow we get and if I can get out there to establish roads. With the ice thicknesses we have I will not take a 3/4 ton truck with plow out on 8-10″ of ice. It is just plain not enough.
40 years ago when I was “invincible”, (or so I thought…) there was times I went out on that amount of ice with my 66 Ford with the V-plow and got away with it. But those years taught me alot about what to and not to do, and not doing that is one of them. Watching water squirt up thru the cracks in the road in front of you from the wave of ice moving ahead of you as your plowing is really pushing it. Somehow I’ve managed to stay above the ice in my 50 years out there and learned something every year. I plan on keeping it that way. Alot of things have changed over the years since those days, but last I heard the water is still cold….
I’m glad the colder weather is coming but what was looking like being out by Christmas might not happen with this. We’ll have to wait and see.
Be Safe!
