I have decided to remain closed thru this coming weekend. With temps the way they are, rain forecasted for Friday/Saturday and unstable ice it’s not worth the worry and responsibility for keeping customers safe.
We only have walkable ice out approx. 100 yards (4″-6″) and beyond that as far as we went, less than 4″ with evidence of shifting ice. yesterday satellite showed approximately 1/4 of the lake as open water on the NW corner and all it will take is some wind and alot could change in a hurry.
Next week we will be going out and checking ice with the hopes of opening for some access then. I will let you know.
FYI… In checking back thru the reservation books over the 70 years of them I found that there were times in the early 60’s that we didn’t get out until January. Just 25 years ago we had open water on December 20th. And quite a few times we didn’t have houses out and rented for New Years Weekend. We all seem to remember the early ice years, fishing on Thanksgiving, etc. But seem to forget the late ones. And with today’s early ice hype promoted by the industry to sell portables, and equipment just make the issue worse.
Keep a Tight Line!
