We are finally getting some colder weather and we needed it. With sub-zero lows in a couple days it will make it thru the snow we have out there and start making ice. Yesterday morning I went out and checked for slush spots and found some in areas where their was 8-9″ of ice and cracks had went thru. In the rough ice in close there was wet spots from the rain we had before the snow. But the snow above was drying out and lighter.
After lunch I went out establishing our first roads with the Land Cruiser. Roads started to NE Gull, SW Spider, Tullibee Road, and Pope’s. Most are only 30′ wide for now. Today I am going to continue with more farther out if it looks good. There is definitely not enough ice to take the bigger trucks out. The ice is 10″ in the rough ice and 8″-9″‘ out beyond on the main lake, plus 6″-9″ of snow… Just plowing with Cruiser started it cracking along the bank and zig-zagged across the roads as the ice was uncovered. Most froze up right away, but it will be interesting to see what happened overnight along the banks.
There will not be any vehicles out of our access. We will remain ATV, snowmobile, SxS and portables for awhile yet. Depending on what I get established for roads the next couple days and increasing ice depths on them will determine what we do after Christmas.
Yesterday afternoon fishermen showed up for the evening bite. But none reported how they did, At least it’s easier to get out there now.
Be Safe out there!
