Yesterday the fishermen that were out reported Perch and small Walleye  The good thing that there are a fair number of 10″ plus Perch showing up.  You have to pick thru them but they are there.

The cold temps are finally making it thru the snow cover and getting to the ice.  Yesterday while I was out plowing there was more evidence of cracking and flooding under the snow.  The guys traveled the stakes and packed with snowmobile every area that had slush where the roads are going to be so the cold could get to it faster.  Ice depths increased almost an inch on the roads I had plowed the day before, but there was little change under the snow cover.  There will have to be alot of cold weather to get it going under the snow.

With more snow coming and very strong NW winds Thursday thru Saturday we are going to close for the Christmas Holiday.  I plan on being closed Thurs thru Saturday and maybe Sunday depending on what it looks like when its over.  I hoping we stay on the northern edge of the snow as we do not need anymore out there and if the winds blow in the 40’s we could end up in pretty rough shape out there.  We will just have to see how it turns out.

This winter is starting out like some of the winters in the late 60’s and  70’s.  There were many times back then we didn’t get over 18″ of ice all winter because of early snow. In 1975 by the third week of January we didn’t have more than 15″ of ice and then got 20″ of snow. Not many have ever seen that. It totally flooded out the lake and we waited three weeks for it to freeze to get over the top of it.  Let’s all hope that we don’t have to go thru that again…

On a good note the Web Cam is up and running again!

Be Safe and Have a Merry Christmas!
