Yesterday I worked on widen the roads I have made so the cold would do some good. With the snow and wind coming the next few days close to shore is where the most snow will end up. I wanted to have those sections have the thickest ice the cold could make. Where we are located on Mille Lacs, when a NW wind blows, the snow comes our way.  Out beyond where the ice is smoother and thinner I’m leaving alone until after.

NOAA put us on the northern edge of a Winter Storm Warning until tomorrow am.  Somewhere between 3-5 inches of snow is predicted following with strong NW winds  eventually dropping on Christmas Eve Day.   We are going to close the access thru the blowing snow and more than likely reopen on Monday.  Christmas Day I will be out reopening what I have established and checking ice depth/conditions.  We will decide what is going to happen then.

All the years I’ve have  been doing this for winter income we never seem to have a “normal” Christmas Holiday.  There is always something to do to get things ready out there for our customers. Many Christmas Day dinners with family have been missed over the years so we celebrate ours on Christmas Eve.  Hoping everyone that reads this has a Merry Christmas!!  Be safe in your travels to family with this weather that’s coming the next few days.

Merry Christmas!
