This morning the NW winds have started to reach the 20 mph range, but unless something is coming yet I’m beginning to doubt if they are going to increase like they forecast. I guess we’ll see. I think this cold weather we are having is getting to the ice some. Three nights in a row with -10 to -20 is bound to help some, it just depends on how much. The last time we checked, was Dec. 20th. In close there was 10-11 inches out into the snow. Out farther in the smoother ice on the main lake there was 8-9 inches. Areas where it flooded and froze under the snow were 10-12 inches, but the majority was less. Every time you drilled to check , immediately it flooded and inch above the ice. On the roads I plowed so far, ice depth was 12-13 inches.
A warm- up is expected next week and while it will be nice to have warmer temps, it’s not what we need for ice making. Especially with all the snow that is out there. If we had 18-20 inches of ice the snow depth and the ability to plow it with the bigger trucks wouldn’t be a problem. With the ice the way it is now it is. We’ll see how it looks soon and make decisions then.
We will remained closed for access until I get out there and open things up and see what it looks like. Monday will more than likely our start.
Merry Christmas!
