This morning the camera was able to see out on the ice and the open water has moved closer. some of the ice has broken off and went NW. Click on it to see.
Gull Reef has rocks exposed and open water around it. We are forecasted to get as much as 2″ of rain over the next 24-36 hours so and winds from the NNE15-20mph and gusts up to 40. I’m not to sure of what will be left after all of that.
I’ve seen many times over the years with rain on the ice, some with houses out on it, some with not. In 1964 I have a picture of me rowing a 12 ft. aluminum boat on the roads with my Dad in the background coming into shore with the Jeep. I’ve drilled holes in areas where water was collecting around houses to get the water to go down and ice to float up. And many more instances to mention in one report. Weather like this is not all that uncommon, but I can say that this is the latest I’ve seen open water conditions and bad ice in my lifetime out there. The colder weather will come, but this is hard for all of us wanting to be out there.
Have a Merry Christmas and may the New Year bring us some ice!
