Yesterday was spent reopening the roads I had made last week.  The two main roads going out faired pretty well with the wind, but the east/west roads did not,  Average snow depth in the open is now anywhere between 6 inches to as much as 2 feet in the drifts. And the drifts are hard.  On the roads that i had established early the ice depth averaged 14-15 inches.  As soon as you get off the roads it drops to 10″-11″

We went out with snowmobiles and checked ice depths where roads  will eventually be to the Banana Reef, Graveyard, etc and the most we measured was 10″ of ice in the open under the snow.  Some places where it had flooded and froze due to a crack  was 12″-14″.  If you drilled in the open, water immediately came up above the ice as much as two inches in spots. That shows how much weight is really on the ice.  With that amount of snow out there and only 10″ of ice, I will not take the bigger trucks out on that, and the snow drifts are too deep and hard for the little ones. I will be concentrating on getting the existing roads as open as possible.  More than likely the Bombi and groomer is going to be make trails out farther along the stakes and smoothing things out tor snowmobile and ATV w/tracks to run on for now.

With the warmer weather coming this week I don’t see things improving much out there for awhile.  But we’ll keep working at it.  Enjoy the warmer temps get out your snowmobile or ATV w/tracks and portable and go fishing.  We have plenty of parking and permanents are welcome stay in their houses in the storage lot which is plowed out and open.

So we hurry up and wait,

Eddy
