Over the weekend, the bite was pretty quiet for the larger Walleye. Some areas were pestered with smalls, but some slots were caught Friday night and Saturday morning. Saturday evening and Sunday, when the cold front came through, just about everything shut off. Some fishermen in the shallow basins had some decent Perch, and some Jumbo’s were caught. A promising sign going into the following weekend with the warm-up coming. It will be nice to see some normal or above normal temps for the last weekend, and hopefully, the weather change will trigger the bite.
Permanents must come up and get their houses ready to be pulled after the coming weekend and settle up accts. Seasonal wheelhouses that are not stored here over the summer need to be removed next weekend. Those who want to stay into March to try for Northern Pike and Perch or wish to store for the summer need to contact the office this week to find out where to park their houses after the coming weekend. Our storage lot will need to open for permanent houses starting Monday morning.
We were very fortunate the last two weekends, with 4-5″ of snow on both the Friday nights before the weekend, that we did not get the high winds after like we had been getting earlier in the winter. The scenery out there would have been a lot different than it is now. Wheelhouses that want to come up this weekend should call ahead and get on the list starting Tuesday. I recommend having tire chains for your rig if you want to move around off the roads. Otherwise, you might want to request a plowed spot for your rig.
Keep a Tight Line!
