The last three days were spent removing houses off the ice in preparation for the coming snowstorm this week.  The predictions for snow up here are 12″ plus and much more to the south of us and lots of wind. At this stage of the season I was not going to have permanents out there with big drifts around them and flooding and fight if for the last four days of the season.  Normally we would have 30″ of ice this time of year and the snow would not have been a problem.  With the lack of ice depth this year it would have been.

Last weekend the bite showed signs of things picking up on the shallower reefs as reports of  nice sized Perch, and Walleye were biting in 12-20 feet for some.  A 43″ Northern was C/R on the Spider Reef and Northern were seen by anglers  in the rentals SW of the island.    It’s that time of year.

Our plan is to stay in contact with our rentals that have reserved for the weekend and decide early Friday morning when the wind drops whether we will attempt to get them back on the ice for the weekend or not.   We will reopening roads for weekend wheelhouses and clearing out spots also depending on what it looks like early Friday also.  So if you are interested, call and get on the list so we can have an idea of who might want to give it a shot.  It’s all going to hinge on how much snow and wind we really end up with.  With heavier amounts to the south, just traveling to get here might be an the biggest issue.

I will update the report daily thru this snowstorm.

Keep a Tight Line!
