Ice road plowing

Mille Lacs Ice Fishing Report – Conditions & Updates

January 10th, 2026

Today, the bite was slow for most in the morning. We had less than a quarter inch of snow and a NW wind that caused some light drifting, but nothing to worry about.  About 3:00 pm, I started to receive pictures and reports of the bite picking up. Those in 16-24 had the most action this afternoon.

With the bit of cold weather we have had the last few days, we still haven’t made much more ice. For example, many of the permanent customers we take care of were still open when we went out to get them ready. That means we didn’t increase our ice depth. Our ice depth is still 17-18″.

For that reason, we limited wheelhouse truck combos to under 12,000lbs, which eliminated big tandems and heavy 3/4- or 1-ton trucks. And limited wheelhouse traffic to 50 rigs, as we have permanent customers and rental customers to take care of also. Our roads held up well, and those out there had no problems.

With the warm-up over the next couple of days, we will continue with that, and as the weather turns colder into next weekend, After we see more ice, we will change weight restrictions. Once I see a consistent 20″, we will increase the weight traveling the roads. Right now is not the time.  Next Tuesday, we will start our weekend wheelhouse list. If you’re interested, give us a call.
