Overnight the bite was pretty slow, according to most reports. The temps were cold in the morning, but the wind switched to the south and warmed up. At the time of this report, the wind is changing to NW, and the cold is slowly on its way for the weekend. Most of the snow is going to be NE of us, but we will get maybe an inch from reports. By tomorrow night, the winds will be picking up, and Saturday will be back to winter.
As the cold arrives, it will be very important for people to keep their speeds down when going out, especially those with wheelhouses. All will be told when they arrive at our office. Ice depths range from as little as 17″ to most of it closer to 20″, but with the ice getting cold with little or no snow cover out there, it will start cracking as the weekend goes on—just something to be aware of.
We will be checking the pressure ridge all weekend and changing positions of the ramps if necessary. With it turning colder there will be cracks forming. Any wheelhouses going out from here will need to check in at the office to see whether we will be allowing crossings at the time of arrival for the weekend. Fortunately, we have many good fishing areas inside the ridge in case.
