Mille Lacs Ice Fishing Report – Conditions & Updates

January 18th, 2026

Most fishermen out there this weekend had a tough go of it with the fishing.  Friday night was the bite with some “keepers” reported. But when the wind picked up, the fishing shut down for the most part. Those fishing with electronics said the fish went tight to the bottom and were hard to get. what was caught was small, with both Perch and Walleye for most. A few pictures of how healthy the “keepers” are, Northern was C/R.  All caught in 20′ of water or less.

With the bit of snow and strong NW winds, there were some visibility issues and drifting around the houses.  Some with wheelhouses that listened to our suggestions at the office and backed their homes into the wind with the tongue and truck facing downwind. Those that did had no problem when leaving, whereas those that parked sideways or the rig facing into the wind had some shoveling to do. Paying attention to the weather and wind forecast helps a lot.  Some also need to learn how far snow drifts from their house when parked, and stay far enough away from established staked roads so it doesn’t cause drifting over the roadway.

With a little more snow today and strong NW winds tonight, it will bring in some of the coldest weather of the year so far. We’ll see what the fish think of that….
