Things were quiet out on the ice yesterday. The slot and larger sized Walleye that are being caught are healthy and well fed this year. Definitely it makes it more difficult and the traditional dusk and night bite seems to be the best. During the day the main focus is Perch.
Ice conditions are slowly improving but still the slush under the snow is not, which means the ice depths in those areas are not increasing and won’t improve until the slush freezes so the cold can get thru it. We are still finding areas with 12″- 13″ of ice in the slush and under the snow. Areas we have cleared off and exposed the ice it’s closer to 15″. Most of the roads are 18″. The cold weather arriving this weekend will improve conditions next week. With the abrupt change in temps from Friday thru Sunday the ice roads will see a lot of changes too.
We are getting things set up for the weekend as we are going to get an inch or two of snow Thursday an a wind switch to NW winds gusting to 30 mph Friday so it is going to be a little “blizzardly” out until the winds settle down Saturday. If you are coming Friday to a permanent or rental or wheelhouse make sure you arrive during daylight hours
Keep a Tight Line!
