According to reports, the bite has been slow for most of the last two days. There are still lots of small Perch and Walleye. Keeper Perch is starting to show up in the catches in spots, but the larger Walleye are tough to get. It’s close to the time of year when some of the shallow water spots will start to pick up in the early morning and evening hours. After this weekend I will be moving some rentals shallow depending on the catch this weekend.
After last weekend’s cold wind and drifting snow, time was spent clearing drifts from permanents and rentals and moving some of them to new areas. Wheelhouse access to the gravel bars is plowed and good to go. You only have to travel 3 miles to get to them from our access, and the road is wide and in excellent condition with no rough areas to travel through.
Fishermen coming up to Mille Lacs should call and check bait availability from the places they normally get it from up here before just driving up and expecting it. The bait suppliers in this area are having difficulty keeping up with demand, and because of the shortages, prices are high. (the consequence of supply and demand)… It might be easier to get it on the way up.
Keep a Tight Line!
