This morning while the temps were below freezing, we pulled the few bigger rentals and the permanents off the ice and got them in the storage lot while it was good going. By noon the sun came out and it rose to the low forties.
The bite was good for those out in our smaller houses we left out, but vey few portable fishermen were out as it was a Monday. Tonight we have four rentals with customers out and we will see if they continue the night bite we had over the weekend. Where I moved some of the basics rentals to today I’m thinking they will.
With the weather and temps forecasted I will limit our access to ATV’s and portables, (preferably with small trailers to haul their gear as we have no snow) For rentals we will shuttle gear if needed to and from, but all will need a ATV to get to shore if there is an a emergency. SxS’s and ATV’s can pull a wheelhouse under sixteen feet, but no trucks of any kind.
Our access is in really good shape so far, with the weather conditions I intend to keep it that way. With the stretch of ice we need to cross that I mentioned in earlier posts. I have decided to do what we are doing. I looked at 6 different 10 day forecasts over the last 12 hours and there isn’t too much to indicate that we will be “making” ice, We will be going backwards with nights that barely make it below freezing. Sooner or later if that happens the ice will start to deteriorate and “honeycomb”. With the ice we have this late in in the season, that would not be good.
That’s what I will be doing until the weather changes. Be Safe!
