Monday there was very few fishermen out with the cold weather and today we only have a few houses rented but we will see how they do.  The last couple days with the high barometer the deeper water has seen small Walleye and Perch activity during daylight hours and “keepers” or larger Walleye have been mostly all after dark.

With all the new electronics available with the ability to see fish from the sides, some anglers are “relearning” what old ice fishermen knew for years. When fishing after dark, lights on in the house that can shine down the holes, especially with the water clarity these days will spook them.  Many anglers last season and this year have mentioned it and tried it both ways to prove it.  I’ve had rentals that they kept the lights low and did very well one night. Then rented it to another group the next evening that left the lights on playing cards, etc. and were skunked.  Houses with TV’s, stereo’s, LEDS lights, and generators hasn’t helped the situation out either.  So that’s something to think about if you really want to catch them.

We opened up spots on the Banana Reef and the Bank yesterday and will be working on the NW Banana and Tundra today. So far most of the flooded areas were freezing up so I was going across the top of them.  That will mean thick enough ice so flooding issues will be minimal or none.  Areas where it hadn’t flooded the snow is 6″-12″ deep with drifts as hard as a rock.. When plowing the chunks coming off the plow are 7 gal pail size. So in some areas there is just too much deal with.  We will be measuring ice road depths today and update you tomorrow. The cold weather has helped us out alot this week and we are hoping to get four good weekends out of the rest of the season.

The weekend wheelhouse starts today for the upcoming weekend.   3/4 ton gas trucks and 24′ tandems is the limit.  Noting larger will be going out from here. See (wheelhouse section so you know what we do).

Keep a Tight Line!
