This morning I walked out and checked the ice in front of us. The first 100 yard was 8-10″ thick. pretty much the same as it was almost two weeks ago, but it was softer. after this warm weather. The stretch of clear ice beyond that towards Gull Reef that had refroze a week ago after the rain and movement was only 1-1/2″ thick. There are many areas like that when I pan the camera out farther and to the east and west. (See picture below, Click to enlarge)
Needless to say we will not be opening our access to foot traffic for this coming weekend. Until we have 4-5″ of ice on the areas where it’s now 1-1/2″ we will remain closed. We need some really cold weather or we will be waiting most of the season for ice. Sounds like it’s starting to change in a week or so, but will it be in time….
